AQHA Spring Fling Circuit - Week 1 April 12-13, 2008  Phillipi, WV
Great start to our show season continues!   Jake is leading for the all around circuit championship - with wins in showmanship, equitation and hack, second under both judges in western horsemanship and also placed in his western pleasure and hunt seat classes!   Gee its nice when we actually stay and show....we always get tired right about after jumping and decide to pack up and head for home.  We actually were home about 7:30pm and while it felt like a long couple of days, we laughed thinking usually our day at the barn STARTS around that time after we get home from work and head to the barn! The weather was kind of nasty so we showed under the covered pen.  Neko didn't get to show as the grounds were so muddy and with her just back to 100% in the past couple of weeks following her injury, it wasn't worth it that she might slip or twist in the mud.  Had a good time.  Shout out to Andrea who had a couple of great rides and Michael Bennett ROCKS!  Not only gave some great coaching over fences but hopped aboard Jake and did it himself!  Looking forward to Michael and Jake showing together more often.  Debbie - fun as always.  Christy had a real nice ride on her horse Bonnie -she's going to have a great year.  Sam looks great -her upcoming marriage surely agrees with her - she's never looked better.  Brenda's new horse Reggie seems like a sweetie.  Good to see John and Brenda too.  And Becca all grown up - didn't even recognize her.  And Adam and Kim - good to see Adam and to meet Kim.  Looking forward to next week!   Hopefully Jake will continue with his consistent rides and win the all around.  But even if he doesn't,  for a horse that is a fraction of the cost of the horses he shows against, he sure holds his own.   Got to see Rufie!  She belongs to Miss Kylie and Leah (I thought I was going to get punched when I teasingly asked if she was for sale because I'd buy her back....you should have seen the steam coming from Leah's ears!).  Rufie works as a lesson horse when not showing also.  So good to see my old pretty girl!!      Brenda didn't show this weekend.  We are shopping for a higher quality yearling so saving money when we can as boarding and showing three is tough sometimes. Plus with Jake showing in so many classes, you really need an extra set of hands just to get ready.   Good trip, everyone got home safe and sound. Jake was chosen for drug testing this show which was a first for us. They randomly choose some horses at the show for drug testing.  Corinne was teasing the testing vet and said have you ever heard of Harlansburg?  The Vet got a big grin on his face and said 'oh yeah.  We get a few positives there!"  It was funny he is not from the area but knew about Harlansburg!  Moped left on Friday to his new home (thanks Kim and Mark and family).  I hope to have pictures from next show.  Our camera USB doesn't seem to be working.  Hopefully with have it fixed by next week.  Congrats Jake and Corinne - four firsts.  We were really proud of him especially since Corinne and Jake really haven't been practicing together the past couple of weeks. The kids have ridden him more than she has in the past couple of weeks. I don't know how much practice they can get in  just four days before we head back but if any horse can do it, Jake can.  We need to find him a youth who wants to lease him to show. He's Mr. Consistent and goes on autopilot - he'd be great for a kid wanting to learn the ropes.
Spring Fling - Week 2 -
CONGRATULATIONS!   JAKE & CORINNE SPRING FLING ALL AROUND CIRCUIT CHAMPIONS
With circuit class wins in showmanship, hunter hack and equitation.   Also Congrats to Michael Bennett & Jake - Open Hack Circuit Champions.
Corinne with a couple of the class awards and the all around award.

Jake in western pleasure (5th of 17)
Also pointed in trail, won showmanship both weekends, horsemanship and equitation and hack.

Michael Bennett rode Jake (second time ever) and took him in open hack the past two weekends -and Won!  Congrats Michael!   I'll post his video shortly.

Below:  Jake had his tail braided for jumping - and I did the pinwheel with a BAND!  No sewing and it turned out great. I've never heard of one being done with a band before but was playing around with it and it worked.

Brenda got to ride in one class this weekend and came away with a 1/2 point in HUS.

Neko got a sixth in HUS. Unfortunately it rained again and we didn't take the chance of getting her re-injured so she didn't show again.  We are going to be working on her trail - hopefully will get to make her debut next show.  We are thinking maybe horsemanship also.   We've got to get her back in shape  so she can show too.

Thanks Debbie, Michael, Darin and everyone for their good wishes!
June 1, 2008 - another great AQHA show!!! More points for Jake and Neko. Neko got her first WESTERN win at an AQHA show. (her first time riding western at an AQHA Show also). Jake also brought home a first in hack again.  The weather was something else!  On Friday, hot and beautiful. Saturday, quarter sized hail, tornado warnings, high wind, torrential rains, and then on Sunday, a mixture of both so we rode both in the open and the covered pen. You can see the water lying in the ring in the western pleasure class. Not many pictures, but we'll have to get the videos up. Neko is making huge strides in making up for the time lost following her injury. Corinne has had several recent offers for her but is thinking she'd like to work on Neko's western pleasure over the winter and do a year of ammy all around with her next year so she really doesn't want to sell.  If we could find a good weanling or yearling, that would be great. Jake was a lot heavier this show than he's been in a long time so we are going to crack down on his diet and get a grazing muzzle so he can go out without getting so many calories from the thick grass.
warming up
Jake jogging at left. Loping above and below.  I'll try to blow up the loping ones. Look how far he's come with his lope!!!!
